Goodbye 2012. Despite the internal challenges, you were good to us. In fact, you made us stronger. You tested our faith – both in ourselves and in one another. It was scary, but here we are – wiser and better. If 2012 was a year of discovery and identity, then 2013 will be a year of acceptance and growth. Developing the Lotus Premium Denim line with a focus on fit, comfort, and universal appeal was beyond our comfort zone. Would women like our fit? Would women identify with our message and branding? Would they attend our trunk shows? And furthermore, WHY would they do it?  Anxiety filled our minds, whispering, “Women won’t try it… Competition is too high….” Fear, doubt, insecurities… they are all common emotions and reactions that stir up when you attempt to try something new and create something valuable for the world. It all leads you think, “Maybe I will fail?” It’s uncomfortable and draining. But as with any kind of suffering, it also serves you powerful lessons. How strong is your faith? How far can you go? And ultimately, where is your heart in the matter? 

There is purpose to pain, too. What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.

In 2013, dare to believe in yourself. If you want to get a promotion, find a way. If you want to go back to school, find the time. If you want to record a song, put it on YouTube. If you want to run your first marathon, get registered. No matter what you want, start with the first step. Worrying about the outcome only spoils the journey to getting there. If our story of women coming together, creating something beautiful for the world, can inspire one woman to follow her own dreams and get her to execute, then we have done more than we ever could hope for. Remember that the pain involved in creating something of value for the world and for yourself isrequired. The more you practice, the better you will get.
